Program objectives include:
Enabling Success for Every Learner.
I have always had a passion for working with people with special needs. I was a caretaker throughout junior high and high school for two families with children with special needs. I also volunteered in the Multiple Disabilities Classroom in high school. I would accompany them on field trips to the grocery store. I majored in Special Education K-12 at Bowling Green State University. I began working at the Auglaize County Educational Service Center the summer after I graduated. I have been employed by the ESC for over 20 years. During my career, I have had the pleasure of teaching junior high, high school, and transition aged students. My classroom has been housed at Wapakoneta High School, Auglaize County ESC, and St. Marys Memorial High School. I also worked part-time in adult services. I feel that working in adult services has given me a unique ability to help shape students' futures. I have been able to work with and experience almost every opportunity they have available to them when they exit school. A perk of teaching has been staying in touch with my former students. I love hearing about their successes in life. Many of my former students have gone on to become Employee of the Month or even Employee of the Year. Other graduates, travel the world with their family, or attend exciting outings in the community (such as OSU football games, movies, theater, swimming at the Y, and going out to eat). I even know of a former student who won one hundred fifty dollars on a trip to the Casino with his providers. In my freetime, I enjoy reading, bike riding, hiking, and having coffee with my friends.
At St. Marys High School, teacher Cindy Oliver is dedicated to empowering her students, supported by a dynamic team including staff director Amy Becher and aides Ashley Brown, Tara Cox, and Jetta Hernandez. Together, they foster an inclusive and nurturing environment, ensuring that every student feels valued and connected. Their commitment aligns seamlessly with the Auglaize County ESC's mission to provide vital educational services for children with developmental disabilities, making a meaningful impact in the community.
